The rig will plug approximately 15–20 wells annually across nine licenses. These are wells that are no longer used for oil or gas production. It was previously confirmed that Island Innovator will work on Heidrun, Snorre, and Norne – and now Åsgard is added to the list.
According to Equinor’s application to the authorities, the rig will plug six to eight wells per year on Åsgard, using a combination of a mobile rig and a Light Well Intervention (LWI) vessel. The plan includes P&A with reuse of well slots on about three wells from a floating rig on the Åsgard field, including tie-ins, over the next year. Before this, pre-P&A activities will be carried out from an LWI vessel, followed by permanent plugging of several wells with Island Innovator. In total, eight wells are planned for the semi-submersible, based on the application.
